Camels Knock Off Tufts & BC in Early Season Action

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.--The Connecticut College women's squash team secured victories against 27th ranked Tufts and 28th ranked Boston College in a weekend trip to Boston November 21-22.

The Camels outlasted the Tufts Jumbos 5-4 in a match played at Belmont Hill School Friday. Saturday, the Camels knocked off the Boston College Eagles in an 8-1 triumph at MIT.

Connecticut College also dropped a 7-2 decision to the Wellesley Blue at MIT.

In the victory against Tufts, junior Ashley Arthur (New York, N.Y.), Mawa Ballo (Harlem, N.Y.), Anne Holly (York, Pa.) and senior Myra Jacobs (West Wardsboro, Vt.) all posted wins.

Arthur posted a straight set 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 triumph in the number one slot on the ladder.  Ballo gutted out a five-set thriller, rallying from a 2-1 deficit to hold off her opponent with an 11-8 win in the deciding fifth game.

In the victory against BC, everyone contributed for the Camels. Arthur, Leah Puklin (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) and Ballo cruised to straight set victories in their respective slots at #1, 2 and 3 on the ladder for Head Coach Ted Child's squad.  Junior Adrienne Sieverding (Red Hook, N.Y.) chipped in with a 3-1 win in the fourth slot.

Freshman Allie Fuller (Providence, R.I.) coasted to an 11-5, 11-3, 11-7 triumph in the sixth slot.  Jacobs and sophomore Caroline Lippincott (Jamestown, R.I.) tacked on victories at number eight and number nine on the ladder.

In the 7-2 loss to the Wellesley Blue, Ballo posted an 11-9, 11-3, 11-8 victory at the #3 slot on the ladder. Holly earned a 3-1 win in the seventh slot on the ladder, pulling out a clutch 15-13 win in the seventh slot on the ladder.
