Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomore forward Alexa de la Guardia (Flower Mound, Texas) buried a shot from the mid slot area with 5:26 remaining to put Connecticut College on top 3-1 for a goal that proved to be the difference as the Camels held off a late game surge by Colby to secure a 3-2 victory at Dayton Arena Friday night.
The Camels improved their record to 9-2-3 and are 4-1-2 in NESCAC play. The Mules fell to 6-7 with a 0-7 mark in conference action.
Colby enjoyed a 10-to-4 shot advantage in the opening period but the two sides headed to the locker room knotted up in a scoreless draw.
But in the middle period, the Camels buried a pair of power play goals 1:58 apart to take control of the game.
With 5:48 left in the second, sophomore Steph Izzi (West Cornwall, Conn.) lifted a wrist shot into the netting to put the Camels on top 1-0. Cassie Hunter (Gilford, N.H.) assisted on the marker.
Then, with 3:50 remaining in the frame, Izzi assisted Hunter, who buried a shot from the point to double the Camels advantage.
Connecticut College senior Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) finished with 27 saves in the contest. With 30 seconds remaining in the middle period, Fralick broke up a 2-on-1 situation when she denied Maddie Dewhirst (Hanover, N.H.) from point blank range.
But with just 5.4 seconds remaining in the second, Delaney Flynn (Scituate, Mass.) put the Mules on the scoreboard and halved the Camel advantage to make it a 2-1 Connecticut College lead after two periods of play.
Colby College rookie net-minder Jessica Thulin (North Reading, Mass.) corralled 30 of her 34 saves in the final two periods of regulation.
With 5:36 remaining, Thulin made a save on Katlyn Paiva's (Rehoboth, Mass.) shot to keep the game close.
But with 5:26 remaining, the Camels added the critical insurance marker when Bogue assisted de la Guardia for her second goal of the season.
Dewhirst pulled the visitors to within 3-2 with Colby's goal emptied at 19:23 of the third.
But it was not enough and the Camels were able to hold on for the 3-2 win.
Connecticut College enjoyed a 37-29 advantage in shots. The hosts were a perfect 5-for-5 in combined special teams, finishing 2-for-2 on the power play and a flawless 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
