Connecticut College 4, Williams College 2 Camels Erupt with Four Goals in Third Period to Erase Two Goal Deficit

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomores Ashley Anctil (Manchester, N.H..)and Steph Izzi (West Cornwall, Conn.) provided power play goals to even things up at two and seniors Justina Germano (Westwood, Mass.) and Amelia Dineen (Arlington, Mass.) registered goals as the Connecticut College women's hockey team erased a 2-0 third period deficit en route to a 4-2 NESCAC triumph over Williams College at Dayton Arena Friday night.

The Camels improved to 12-8-3 with a 7-6-2 mark in NESCAC play, while the visiting Ephs slipped to 8-12-3 with a 5-8-2 record in conference play.

Senior Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) made 24 saves in the victory for the Camels.

Williams College sophomore Sara Lehman (Lexington, Mass.) accounted for both of the visitors' goals, they were her sixth and seventh of the year.

Rookie net-minder Christina Cleroux (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) had 33 saves in the loss for the Ephs.

Lehman pounced on a loose puck out in front of the goal and stuffed one for Williams with 2:09 remaining in the second period to vault the Ephs out to a 2-0 advantage.

But in the third period, the Camels took full advantage of a five-minute major penalty to cash in on their power play.

With 14:44 remaining in regulation, Izzi halved the lead for the Camels with her team-leading 12th goal of the season. Senior Leigh Getz (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Julie Beattie (Livonia, Mich.) assisted on the marker.

Then, with 9:23 to play, Anctil took a feed from Amanda Bogue (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the slot area and flicked one in from her backhand to even things up at two.

With 4:25 to go, the Camels took the lead for good. Dineen delivered a lead pass through the neutral zone ahead to Germano who rifled home a shot from the mid-slot area to make it a 3-2 game.

With 49.5 seconds to go, the Camels added some insurance. Sophomore Cassie Hunter (Gilford, N.H.) cycled the puck ahead to Dineen, who buried the empty-netter from the blue line to close out the 4-2 win.

 

Connecticut College enjoyed a 37-to-26 advantage on the shot chart. The hosts were a perfect 4-for-4 on their penalty kill and were 2-for-6 on their power play.

 

The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Dayton Arena.
