Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Rookie forward Kearan Burke (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored with 1:36 remaining in the first period and Christina Cleroux (New Glasgow, Nova Scotia) turned aside 31 shots to lead the Williams College women's hockey team to a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College Saturday.

The Ephs improved their record to 9-12-3 with a 6-8-2 record in NESCAC play. The Camels fell to 12-9-3 while evening their mark at 7-7-2 in conference action.

Connecticut College senior Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) made 24 saves in the setback. Fralick needs just 22 stops to reach the 2,000 save barrier in her prolific playing career.

Both teams have qualified for the upcoming NESCAC Championship and will play quarterfinal games next Saturday.

Williams scored their goal when sophomore Sara Lehman (Lexington, Mass.) fired a shot on Fralick in the closing moments of the first.  Fralick was able to make the save on Lehman's scoring bid but Burke collected the rebound and went top shelf with the puck to put the visitors on top for good with her third goal of the season.

The Camels out-shot the Ephs 10-5 in the opening period of play.  In the middle period, Williams applied more pressure.  With 13:12 remaining in the frame, Fralick made a nice stab on Hanna Beattie's (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) blistering slap shot.

Connecticut College enjoyed a 14-to-9 shot advantage in the third period. With 1:20 remaining in regulation, the Camels were awarded with a power play and emptied their net.

Connecticut College won the faceoff and Julie Beattie (Livonia, Mich.) reversed the puck to the opposite side of the zone, setting up Leigh Getz (Clifton Park, N.Y.) for a blast from the right circle but Cleroux was able to make the stop on the terrific scoring bid.

Williams cleared the puck with 25 seconds left and the visitors were able to hang on for the 1-0 victory.

The Camels carried a 31-to-25 advantage on the shot chart. Both teams were held scoreless on the power play. Williams was 0-for-5 while the Camels finished 0-for-4 with the extra skater.
