Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Junior Margaret Gabriel (Washington, D.C.) scored four goals to lead the seventh ranked Hamilton College women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 victory at Connecticut College Saturday.
The Continentals improved their record to 11-3 with a 7-3 mark in the NESCAC, while the Camels fell to 4-10 with a 1-8 record in conference play.
Sophomore Nora Klemmer (Sherborn, Mass.) had two goals and an assist for the visitors. Ashleigh Stephan (Avon, Conn.) and Taylor Ryan (Darien, Conn.) both scored twice.
Sophomore Hannah Rubin (Atherton, Calif.) made four saves in the win. Kari Koga (Eldorado Springs, Colo.) finished with one stop in relief duty.
Connecticut College seniors Meag Irvine (Westwood, Mass.) and Heidi Halsted (Mill Valley, Calif.) netted two goals each to lead the Camels in their final home game. Senior Cecily Cushman (Marblehead, Mass.) added her 36th collegiate goal in the contest. Mackenzie Axelson (Cohasset, Mass.) netted a first half score for the hosts.
Rookie net-minder Meg Raskin (Westwood, Mass.) made seven saves in the loss. Megan Mullin (Sudbury, Mass.) had one stop in relief duty.
The Continentals opened the game on a 4-0 run. Klemmer assisted Stephan for a goal with 18:06 to go to cap the run. But with 16:51 left, Hannah Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) made a nice feed to Irvine out in front of the cage for a quick one-timer to get the Camels on the board in a 4-1 contest. But Ryan scored two of the next four goals and the Continentals carried a 9-3 advantage into the break.
The Camels clamped down on defense in the second half and when Cushman rifled home her free position goal with 16:16 left, the Camels were within 9-4.
Hamilton pushed the lead back to 11-4 when Gabriel netted her third goal of the day with 8:26 remaining.
Halsted and Irvine provided the home crowd with a nice boost when they scored goals late in the second stanza to close the gap to 11-6.
But Gabriel was able to close out the 12-6 victory with her fourth goal in the final minute of play.
The Camels will close out their season at Wesleyan University Wednesday night with a 6:00 p.m. game in Middletown, Conn.
