Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Smith College field hockey team used a three-goal second half en route to a 4-1 non-conference victory over Connecticut College Tuesday evening.
With the win, Smith improves to 2-3, while Connecticut College drops to 0-3 on the season.
Mariah Ollive (Milton, Vt./Milton) put the home team on the board first as her shot slipped past the Conn. College goalkeeper for a 1-0 advantage in just the third minute of play.
The Camels evened the score when Jamie Navoni (Natick, Mass.) scored unassisted 11:22 into the half. It was the sixth goal in Navoni's nascent career for the Camels.
Nearly 40 minutes of play continued until Elsie Odhiambo (Oyugis, Kenya/Kisumu Girls School) sprinted past the last line of defense and blasted her shot in the net for a 2-1 Smith lead.
The Pioneers tacked on another score when Bayleigh Bogan (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon)'s direct shot from Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass./Deerfield Academy) found the back of the cage.
Odhiambo rounded out the scoring for Smith with her second goal of the half on a pass from Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) for the 4-1 final.
Junior goalkeeper Cameo Tietje (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) recorded 10 saves for the Pioneers.
Connecticut College out-shot the Pioneers 13-to-4 in the contest.
The Camels will return to action September 21 when they visit Manhattanville for a 7:00 p.m. game.
