BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Connecticut College women's squash team opened its 2017-18 campaign with three competitions against NESCAC schools in Maine over the weekend. The Camels most notably earned a historic 5-4 win over Bates before falling to Colby and Bowdoin by 7-2 and 5-4 scores.
Phoebe Pilakas (Conway, Mass.) went undefeated over the weekend from the No. 9 position to lead the way for the Camels. She most notably earned a resounding 11-2, 11-3, 11-1 win over Isabelle Hnat of Bates before defeating Anna Gildea of Colby by scores of 11-4, 11-5 and 11-2 on Saturday. The sophomore then wrapped up the weekend a sweep of Jeannie Davis by game scores of 11-6, 11-9 and 11-5.
Other notable performances were made by senior Allie Fuller (Providence, R.I.) and sophomore Davis Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass.). Fuller earned the deciding point in the 5-4 victory over Bates by rallying from behind against Tiffany Cervantes from the No. 7 spot, while Lemay defeated her opponents from Bates and Colby at No. 6.
Connecticut College (1-2) returns to action when it travels to Amherst College for a round robin tournament on Saturday, Dec. 2.
