NEW LONDON, Conn.--Junior captain Patrick Farrell (Smithtown, N.Y.) and sophomore Johnny Cissel (Amherst, N.H.) ignited a home crowd with an 8-2 victory at number three doubles but it was not enough as 13th ranked Amherst College was able to come away with an 8-1 victory against Connecticut College today in the Whaling City.
The Mammoths improved their record to 14-3 with a 2-1 mark in NESCAC action. The Camels fell to 4-7 and are 0-4 in conference matches.
Connecticut College sophomore Will Cannon (pictured, Fairfield, Conn.) kept it close in a nail-biter at third singles, falling to Mammoth sophomore Cameron Raglin (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) in the super tie-breaker, 10-6. Farrell put forth a strong battle at number six singles before he fell to sophomore Oliver Kendall (Newton, Mass.) in an 11-9 decision in the super tie-breaker.
Senior Andrew Arnaboli (New York, N.Y.) posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory for Amherst at top singles. Chris Paradis (Maplewood, N.J.) chipped in with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at second singles for the visitors.
The Camels will visit Trinity College tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. NESCAC match up in the Capital City.
