Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team fell to Trinity by a 1-0 score on Tuesday evening at Silfen Field.
Trinity (2-4, NESCAC 1-4) controlled play during the first half and had an 8-3 shot advantage over the hosts while also attempting four penalty corners. However, the Camel defense being anchored by junior Lauren Hirshom (Walpole, Mass.) and senior Berklee Vaillancourt (Manchester, N.H.) was able to keep the Bantams off the scoreboard through the first 35 minutes of action.
The second half was more evenly played, but the visitors were able to get the only goal they would need when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 48th minute. Kelcie Finn flicked the ball to the upper left of the netting to give the Bantams the edge.
Following a Trinity timeout, Connecticut College had several chances to net the equalizer in the final 10 minutes of play. The Camels earned three penalty corners and unleashed four shots at goalkeeper Lori Berger, but nothing was able to get past the goal line.
Berger picked up the victory for Trinity by making four saves. Freshman Andi McGraw (Sheffield, Mass.) turned away six shots for the Camels.
Connecticut College (3-5, NESCAC 1-4) returns to action when it visits No. 13 Williams on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
