Women's Squash Recovers to Split On Opening Day of Pioneer Valley Round Robin

AMHERST, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's squash team split against its competition on the opening day of the Pioneer Valley Round Robin hosted by Amherst College. After dropping a 5-4 decision in heartbreaking fashion to St. Lawrence, the Camels regrouped to earn a 6-3 win over Mount Holyoke.

The Camels and Saints were deadlocked at 4-4 with the first singles spot finishing up and headed to a fifth set. St. Lawrence, however, was able to prevail by default due to an injury to take the match by a 5-4 score. Sophomore Margaret Davey (Groton, Mass.) and freshman Molly Carabatsos (North Andover, Mass.) highlighted a strong effort for the Camels by winning their individual matches from the second and third positions in four sets.

Connecticut College (4-7), however, ended the day on a high note by defeating the Lyons of Mount Holyoke. Freshman Denise Bonilla (New Haven, Conn.) most notably rallied from two sets down to take the No. 5 spot by scores of 4-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-5 and 11-6.

The Camels conclude play at the Pioneer Valley Round Robin when they face Wesleyan tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
