POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's squash earned a pair of convincing victories on the opening day of a weekend tournament hosted by Vassar. The Camels beat Northeastern, 7-2, and swept away Bard by a 9-0 score without dropping a set.
In the Northeastern match, freshman Denise Bonilla (New Haven, Conn.) most notably won the No. 4 position by rallying from two sets down to win in five. Set scores were 13-15, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2 and 11-8. Molly Carabatsos (North Andover, Mass.) also earned a hard-fought win, defeating her opponent by scores of 11-6, 12-10, 8-11 and 16-15 from the No. 2 spot.
Junior Jacqueline Chu (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Phoebe Pilakas (Conway, Mass.) put together a pair of dominant performances to lead the way for the Camels against Bard. Chu won the No. 5 position by set scores of 11-2, 11-2 and 11-1, while Pilakas captured the No. 6 spot by scores of 11-1, 11-2 and 11-3.
Connecticut College (6-8) concludes weekend play when it faces host Vassar tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
