ITHACA, N.Y. – Seniors Patrick Farrell (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Ben Sachs (Mount Kisko, N.Y.) each won their final matches as collegians to help propel the Connecticut College men's tennis team to a 5-4 win over Ithaca on Sunday afternoon.
After dropping the first doubles match, the Camels took the next two at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and never trailed again. Farrell teamed up with freshman Zak Danz (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) to win the No. 3 position, 8-3, before juniors Charlie Williams (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Johnny Cissel (Amherst, N.H.) captured the No. 2 spot by an 8-7 decision to give the Camels momentum.
The visitors then won three of the singles matches to hold off the Bombers and register a victory in their final match of the season. Sachs triumphed No. 4 singles by scores of 7-5 and 7-6, and freshman Henry DeCoster (Greenwich, Conn.) outlasted his opponent at No. 3 by marks of 6-3, 3-6 and 10-6. Freshman SangJin Song (Roslyn, N.Y.) then captured No. 5 singles to give the Camels the fifth point they needed to seal the win.
Connecticut College (3-10) graduates three seniors and is slated to return more than 10 letterwinners next season.
