Hamilton Defeats Field Hockey on Senior Day

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College field hockey team dropped a NESCAC contest to Hamilton by a 3-1 decision on Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.

The Continentals scored the first three goals of the contest, including two off of penalty corners, in the first half and never looked back. Maura Holden put the visitors on the board when she redirected in a blast from Lizzie Clarke midway through the first quarter. Tracey Stafford then finished a give-and-go play with Maddie Beitler by backhanding a shot past Camel goalkeeper Andi McGraw (Sheffield, Mass.) in the 23rd minute of action, and Holden slid a short pass from Anna Villamil through a scrum just over a minute later to make it 3-0 at the break.

Connecticut College was able to get one past Maggie Reville by capitalizing on a corner of their own. Senior Courtney Peyko (Grand Isle, Vt.) inserted the ball to junior Caroline Ferro (Wilton, Conn.), who dribbled around a defender and rifled a shot that bounced off the pads of Reville and into the cage midway through the third.

Even though Hamilton (7-7, NESCAC 4-6) failed to add to its lead by holding a lopsided advantage in shots and corners during the fourth quarter, they were still able to come away with the win thanks to a strong first half. A defensive save by sophomore Colleen Raftery (Dover, Mass.) kept the Camels within striking distance, but they were unable to convert on the offensive end for the remainder of the contest and suffered their ninth defeat in conference play.

McGraw made eight saves in the losing effort for Connecticut College, while Hamilton's Reville turned away four shots to pick up the win. The Continentals had 13-9 advantages in both shots and penalty corners.

Connecticut College (2-12, NESCAC 0-9) will look to wrap up its 2019 campaign on a high note when it hosts Wesleyan on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
