AMHERST, Mass. – The Connecticut College women's squash team competed at the Pioneer Valley Invitational on the campuses of Amherst College and Mount Holyoke College over the weekend. The Camels most notably earned an 8-1 victory over Mount Holyoke after dropping matches to Wesleyan, 9-0, and William Smith by a 5-4 score.
Junior Molly Carabatsos (North Andover, Mass.) headlined a list of three Camels who won two matches in three sets. Playing from the No. 4 position, Carabatsos swept her opponent from William Smith by set scores of 11-7, 11-6, and 11-7 as well as her foe from Mount Holyoke by marks of 11-8, 11-4, and 11-3.
Other double winners over the three-match weekend included sophomores Birgitta Salvesen-Quinn (Cambridge, Mass.) and Lili Vazquez (Chicago, Ill.) as well as senior Mikayla Waterhouse (Scarsdale, N.Y.). Salvesen-Quinn and Waterhouse matched Carabatsos' feat by downing their opponents in straight sets at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, while Vazquez earned a 3-1 win at the No. 6 spot in the William Smith match before earning a three-set victory from the same position against the Lyons.
Connecticut College (8-8) will next travel to the Boston area to face Northeastern and Tufts on Saturday afternoon.
