Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. – The Connecticut College women's ice hockey team fell to Hamilton by a 4-1 decision on Friday evening.
Connecticut College got on the board first at the 8:07 mark of the contest. Junior Erin Dillon (Hazlet, N.J.) kept a possession alive by denying a Hamilton defender a clear along the boards to force a turnover and moved the puck to senior Kylie Wilkes (Howell, N.J.), who found senior Lauren Helm (Frisco, Texas) in the slot. Helm then passed the puck to a cutting Dillon below the left faceoff circle, and the junior swept it into the back of the net as she fell to the ice.
Hamilton (15-8, NESCAC 9-6), however, responded by netting four unanswered to close out the game. After Missy Segall found the back of the net in the final minute of the opening period to knot the score heading into intermission, the Continentals caught a wave of momentum by scoring a short-handed goal to take their first lead. A pass up the ice by Helm on the left side was stolen away by Michaela Giuttari in the neutral zone, and she found Jess Haviland for a go-ahead strike just 3:45 into the second period.
Mya Berretta then doubled the lead midway through the second period, and Allison Curry netted her fourth marker of the season at the 3:11 mark of the final period to provide insurance. Sidney Molnar made a game-high eight saves in the third frame between the pipes, allowing the hosts to jump into fourth place in the NESCAC standings and eliminate hopes of the Camels hosting a postseason game next weekend.
Molnar picked up the win for Hamilton by stopping 19 shots. Camel freshman Abby Wieczorek (Wilmette, Ill.) suffered just her first career loss by making 21 saves in over 40 minutes of action.
Connecticut College (13-7-3, NESCAC 6-6-3), which is locked into the sixth seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament, and Hamilton will conclude a two-game weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
