NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's squash team earned a resounding 9-0 victory over Bucknell in its opening match at CSA Nationals on Friday afternoon at Yale.
The Camels, who are seeded first in the Epps Cup bracket and are chasing their second consecutive title, won two matches in four sets as well as seven in the minimum three frames. Junior Denise Bonilla (New Haven, Conn.) had a comeback win from the No. 1 position, defeating Ellie Hopkins by scores of 12-14, 11-5, 16-14, and 11-5. Senior Davis Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass.) also rallied to win at the No. 2 spot by marks of 9-11, 11-5, 11-9, and 11-8.
Seniors Margaret Davey (Groton, Mass.) and Mikayala Waterhouse (Scarsdale, N.Y.) were among the Camels that also contributed to the lopsided win by capturing wins in straight sets. Davey took the No. 3 match by scores of 11-5, 11-8, and 11-2, while Waterhouse was victorious at No. 8 by marks of 11-4, 11-6, and 11-4.
Connecticut College (11-11) will continue competing at CSA Nationals against fourth-seeded Colby tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m.
