NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Julian Tien (Barrington, R.I.) headlined a group of three double winners for the Camels in leading the Connecticut College men's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Union on Sunday evening.
The Camels first captured two of three doubles matches which were decided by identical 8-7 scores. Senior Guillermo Garcia Rincon (Cáceres, Spain) and Tien teamed up to claim the top spot, while juniors Brian Gould (Lebanon, Conn.) and Zachary Danz (West Tisbury, Mass.) won the No. 2 position.
Garcia Rincon, Tien, and Danz all picked up their second win of the evening in singles action. Tien triumphed in the most convincing fashion, bettering David Bond by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 from the No. 3 spot. Garcia Rincon took down Aidan Bowden in straight sets by 6-4 marks at No. 2, and Danz won the No. 4 position over Thomas McGuire, 7-5 and 6-2.
The Dutchmen were led by Nick Weitzman in the losing effort. He paired with Del Schunk to win at No. 3 doubles before outlasting his Camel opponent by close 7-6 decisions at No. 6 singles.
Connecticut College (1-3) will have several weeks off from competition and next host Trinity on Saturday, March 28 at 2 p.m.
