Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn.--Ariel DiPasquale (Whitestone, N.Y.) had a hat-trick to lead the Connecticut College women's hockey team in a 6-0 blanking of Plymouth State University Tuesday night.
The Camels improve their record to 6-7-1 with the triumph while the Panthers fall to 3-11 with the setback.
DiPasquale scored once in the opening period and tacked on two more in a four-goal barrage in the middle period.
"I love the team we have here," DiPasquale said in a recent interview. "I really like our Coach Kristin Steele and the small school-feel we have here at Connecticut College."
Caroline Corbett (Norwood, Mass.) chipped in with two goals while sophomore Shelley Moore (San Jose, Calif.) contributed with a goal and two assists.
Jennifer Wisiewski (North Ridgeville, Ohio) made 44 saves in a gutsy performance for the visitors. Kelsie Fralick (West Chester, Pa.) stopped 20 shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season for the Camels.
The Camels enjoyed a 50-to-20 advantage on the shot chart and were 1-for-3 on their power play. Connecticut College was also a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Connecticut College vaulted out to a 1-0 lead at 10:28 of the opening period. Sam Shoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.) skated in from the right circle and made cross crease pass to Caroline Corbett, who flicked one in at the far post. Later on with 3:18 remaining, the Camels cashed in on a power play. Leah Kallen (Chicago, Ill.) made a nice feed to DiPasquale, who buried the one-timer in the slot for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
In the middle period, the Camels erupted with four goals. Just 3:13 into the frame DiPasquale re-directed a shot from Julia Rodricks (Baltimore, Md.) for her second goal of the night to make it a 3-0 game. Wisniewski made two great stops on Corbett, the first coming with 15:39 remaining and then added another save from point blank range with 12:35 remaining.
But DiPasquale tacked on another goal to complete the hat-trick at 15:54. Samanthana Shuffenecker (Oswego, N.Y.) assisted on the tally with a pass that traveled from the left circle to the far post.
Shelley Moore buried a wrist shot from the high slot with 2:48 remaining to make it a 5-0 game. On the ensuing face-off, the Camels immediately gained the Plymouth zone and Moore assisted Corbett, who snuck one in with her backhand to make it a 6-0 game with 2:40 remaining.
Wisiewski showed her resilience in the third, collecting 15 saves or else this could have been a double-digit score.
The Panthers return home to the Granite State to host UMass Boston Friday night at 6:00 p.m. Connecticut College visits NESCAC and intra-state rival Wesleyan University Saturday night for a 7:30 p.m. game.
