NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Stephanie Simon (Wellesley, Mass.) teamed up with senior Aleksandra Drljaca (East Greenwich, R.I.) to earn a doubles point and then keyed a comeback in singles action to help the Connecticut College women's tennis team rally to earn a 5-4 victory over No. 28 Trinity on Sunday afternoon.
Connecticut College trailed by a 2-1 score after doubles play and found itself in a 4-3 hole heading down the stretch with two singles matches left. After dropping the first set by a 6-4 score, Simon won set two by a 6-4 decision before earning a 6-2 win in the extra frame to defeat Trinity's Krista Jiranek at No. 3 singles and create a 4-4 deadlock between the teams. Junior Emily Migliorini (North Haven, Conn.) then captured No. 2 singles by set scores of 6-0, 3-6 and 6-1 to clinch the victory.
The Camels scored their first point when Drljaca and Simon took down Jillian Winer and Emily Curtis at No. 2 doubles by an 8-3 score. Sophomores Rachel Weiss (Great Neck, N.Y.) and Hayley Zukerberg (Newton, Mass.) followed by winning their singles matches, which included a come-from-behind effort by Weiss, to set the stage for Simon and Migliorini to complete the rally and give the hosts the 5-4 win.
Connecticut College (3-7, NESCAC 1-4) next hosts No. 5 Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
