Anita DeFrantz '74 was a member of the rowing and basketball teams at Connecticut College. In 1976, DeFrantz earned a bronze medal as a member of the United States Olympic Rowing Team. 

Four years later, she once again earned a spot on the Olympic Team and led the fight against the United States boycott of the games in Moscow. 

DeFrantz, who also earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977, is the president of the Amateur Athletic Foundation in Los Angeles, a member of the United States Olympic Committee Executive Board, and the first black woman to hold a position on the International Olympic Committee.
