Sarah Pitt-Del Cristo '86 was a groundbreaker for the Connecticut College swimming program. A four-year competitor primarily in the butterfly and breaststroke events, she broke school records throughout her career. She also helped elevate the swimming program’s stature as the Camels earned a four-year 32-11 record that included four straight winning seasons.

Pitt-Del Cristo has an immediate impact on the Camel swimming program in her first year, breaking four individual school records and swimming on three record-breaking relays. She earned the squad’s Most Valuable Swimmer Award both as a freshman and a sophomore, and she became the first swimmer in school history to qualify for and compete in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in the 50- and 200-yard butterfly events.

A four-year New England Championships qualifier, Pitt-Del Cristo helped lead the 1985-86 Camels to their first undefeated season with a perfect 11-0 record. She graduated with school records in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.12), 100-meter butterfly (1:11.95), 200-yard butterfly (2:20.37), 200-meter butterfly (2:45.00), and 200-yard individual medley (2:26.59). She also was a key member of four record-holding relay teams: 200-meter medley relay, 400-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay, and 400-yard freestyle relay.

After graduating from Connecticut College, Pitt-Del Cristo earned a second bachelor’s degree in 1989 and a master’s degree in 1994, both in health science, from Duke University. She has worked as a physician’s assistant since 1990, supporting patients undergoing reconstructive plastic surgery at NYU Medical Center.

For the past two decades, she has volunteered with the American Academy of Physicians Assistants and Forward Face, a nonprofit that helps children and families cope with the medical and social effects of facial differences. In the community, Pitt-Del Cristo works with the Parent-Teacher Association at her children’s schools.
