Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame
Ken Kline made an impact on Connecticut College athletics as both a coach and administrator for over two decades. As head coach of the women’s soccer team from 1985-2005, he forged an impressive legacy of success both on a regional and national level, compiling an overall record of 170-125-17. He posted 15 winning seasons, 13 postseason appearances and two conference semifinals appearances.Â
Kline led the Camels to an ECAC Championship in 1988, and 10 years later to the NCAA Elite Eight and a No. 1 ranking in the region. In 2002, he was named NSCAA New England Regional Coach of the Year. Overall, he coached seven All-Americans and 25 All-New England selections, and four of his players went on to play professionally.Â
Kline also served as head coach of men’s tennis from 1989-98, registering an overall record of 98-38. In his final season as head coach, he led the team to the NCAA Regional Final. As an administrator, Kline was Associate Athletic Director from 1989-2009 while taking on several different roles at the college including Coordinator of Physical Education, Athletics Admission Coordinator, and Professor of Physical Education.Â
A native of Chatham, N.J., Kline earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Bridgeport, where he was a captain on the men’s soccer team. He went on to earn a master’s in physical education from Idaho State University and a PhD from the University of Connecticut. He also was involved at the high school level, serving as chair of Physical Education and head coach of boy’s soccer at Waterford High School from 1981-89. In 2007 he was inducted into the Southeast Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame.
