Bill Lessig was the head coach of the Connecticut College men’s soccer program from 1970-2008. He posted 269 wins on the pitch, guiding the Camels to the college’s inaugural NCAA Championship berth in 1995.

Lessig coached 19 All-Americans, including Jim Gabarra ‘82, a United States Olympian and member of the U.S. National Team. Lessig has been honored in the State of Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame and the Southeastern Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame.

With Lessig at the helm, the Camels won the ECAC Division III Championship in 1992 and 1996. Connecticut College also advanced as ECAC Finalists in 1978, 1986, 1993 and 1997.

In 2007, Lessig and the Camels qualified for the NESCAC Championship in dramatic fashion with an overtime victory against Tufts of the final day of the regular season.

On the hardwood, Lessig guided the Camel women’s basketball team to a record of 181-64 (.739). Lessig’s teams captured the NIAC Crown on back to back occasions in 1985 and 1986 and reached the finals in 1984. His teams advanced to the ECAC Semifinals for three consecutive years from 1991-1993.
