Dan Gallagher ‘81 and Livingston Johnson ‘79 were groundbreakers not only for the Connecticut College rowing team, but also for the entire varsity athletic program.
 
During the 1979 collegiate racing season, they helped lead Conn. to a silver medal in the coxed four event at Philadelphia’s prestigious Dad Vail Regatta, the largest U.S. collegiate regatta.
 
Following that success, Gallagher and Johnson teamed as a pair and had immediate success, taking top honors with a gold medal at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. The talented tandem topped the field that included several competitors from a larger scale, Division I athletic programs.
 
Following graduation, Gallagher continued rowing competitively with the Union Boat Club in Boston from 1984-1998. He traveled to the United Kingdom to compete in the world-renowned Henley Royal Regatta in 1986 and 1988. Currently, Gallagher works in alternative energy technology development.
 
Johnson has also sustained his competitive rowing since graduation. Competing in a single shell, he has won events at numerous regattas, including the prominent Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia. Professionally, he has worked in the investment business and as a venture capitalist. In 2002, he co-founded MedAvante, a New Jersey company focused on pharmaceutical clinical trial innovation.
