Caroline Twomey Gilbert '86 was a leader who spearheaded the most successful era of Connecticut College field hockey.

A four-year starter at the midfield position, Twomey Gilbert graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 57 points on 26 goals and five assists. These statistics were achieved on a natural grass playing field.

In 1985, Twomey Gilbert served as a co-captain for the Camels’ most successful team that posted a record of 10-3-1, finishing among the top 10 teams in New England.

A four-year Northeast College Field Hockey Association All-Star, Twomey Gilbert’s teams posted records of 27-19-5 (0.578) during her prolific playing career. At the conclusion of her senior year, she was honored as a Penn Monto All-American while also being named Most Valuable Player of the Team.

On the lacrosse field, Twomey Gilbert was a three-year standout on defense. In 1986, Twomey Gilbert was honored as an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American selection. She was also recognized as the Camels’ Most Valuable Player by her teammates. Twomey Gilbert’s teams posted an impressive 27-8-1 record (0.763) during her three-year career on the lacrosse field.

She also played one season of lacrosse at Wellesley College while participating in the 12-College Exchange Program,

Twomey Gilbert received her degree in history while also carrying a minor in sociology. Off the fields of play, she was a frequent contributor to the campus newspaper, the College Voice.

In 1992, Twomey GIlbert received her master’s degree in education from Harvard University.

Twomey Gilbert has extensive teaching and coaching experience in the private school ranks. She currently works as an educational consultant for candidates interested in working in independent schools.

In the community, Twomey GIlbert is a member of the Board of Directors for Salisbury Winter Sports Association (SWSA) which supports the instruction of ski jumping, cross-country and downhill skiing to area youth. SWSA also sponsors the annual Eastern Ski Jumping Championships in Salisbury, Connecticut. 

Twomey Gilbert is married to her husband Peter. The couple has two sons: Amos and Caleb.
