Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame
An accomplished swimmer who received national recognition, Jane Cadwell Lott '36 began her athletic career as a youth in the 1920s. As a teenager, she broke several Michigan state swimming records and won regional competitions in the breaststroke events.
Â
In 1932 while competing in her first national competition, Cadwell won the 100-yard breaststroke in the AAU National Indoor Championships. She later broke the world record in the 50-yard breaststroke and earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.
One of the youngest competitors at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, Cadwell reached the finals of the 200-meter breaststroke and finished seventh among the world’s top swimmers. Following her success at the Olympics, Cadwell entered Connecticut College for Women and graduated as a member of the class of 1936.
Â
Cadwell passed away in 2000; and two years later, the college’s pool was dedicated the Jane Cadwell Lott ’36 Natatorium in honor of her many accomplishments as a competitive swimmer.
