Kerry Newhall '98 proved to be one of the most successful student athletes to have ever competed at Connecticut College. A talented thrower for the Camel track and field program, Newhall qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 1996 & 1997.

In 1996, Newhall earned All-American honors in the javelin with a school record setting throw of 131 feet, three inches en route to her fifth place finish at the NCAAs.

In 1997, Newhall captured the ECAC Division III Championship and the New England Division III Championship in the javelin. During her prolific throwing career, Newhall was a three-time All-New England Division III and three-time All-ECAC honoree. She was also recognized as an All-New England (Division 1, 2, 3) performer in 1997.

Newhall was equally impressive in the classroom. At the conclusion of her senior year, she was recognized with the Brown/Brooks senior athlete award. Established by the Class of 1984, the Brown/Brooks Award is given to the outstanding male and female student-athletes who best represent the graduating class in scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship.

Newhall received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

Since graduating, Newhall has dedicated her life to educating and serving others in their academic endeavors. She received her Master’s Degree in education from UMass-Boston. After her father passed away unexpectedly, Newhall and her family set up a scholarship fund in his name at Peabody High School.

Newhall is the chair of the social studies department at Concord Middle School in Concord, Mass.
