Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame
In the early 1980s, Thomas Olsen '85 was an influential member of Conn’s coed sailing program. He helped the squad earn national ranking in its early years of varsity competition.
Olsen went on to earn selection to the U.S. Sailing Team from 1986-2000 and twice finished second at the 1988 and 1996 U.S. Olympic Trails. He has won two Star World Championships (1987, 1999) and Etchells-22 World Championship (1992)
Among Olsen’s additional honors are: U.S. Olympic Committee Team Co-Athlete of the Month (1999) and Athlete of the Year in Yachting (1987, 1991, 1999) and Yacht Racing and Cruise Medal of Achievement (1987).
Olsen had also built a career as a respected marine tradesman in the Cape Cod boating community with his own business restoring tradition wooden boats.
