Mizan Ayers ’02 was the face of one of the most successful four-year runs in the history of the Connecticut College men’s basketball program and during the turn of the century. He made an immediate impact by earning NESCAC Rookie of the Year laurels as a member of the 1998-99 squad which ranked first in the country, advanced to the Final Four of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament, posted a 28-1 ledger, and was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. The point guard also helped the Camels advance to postseason play the following three seasons, which included the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Tournament in 2000, the semifinal round of the NESCAC Tournament in 2001, and the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament in 2002. Ayers earned All-NESCAC First Team laurels twice and graduated as the
school’s all-time assists leader with 409, second all-time in steals, and 15th on the all-time scoring list with 1,119 career points. Off the court, Ayers served as a Housefellow with Residence Life and completed internships with Merrill Lynch in New London as well as with the Admissions Office at Connecticut College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2002 before beginning his professional career as a fixed income analyst at General Electric, a financial analyst at Quantitative Financial Strategies, and a business consultant at Accenture. Ayers is currently the CEO and co-founder of Area New York, a real estate firm which focuses on residential, commercial, and investment properties that has been in business since 2007. He resides in New York City with his wife, Zumara, and their three daughters, Zoe, Zya, and Zadi.
