Mary Elizabeth Stone '49 has proven that it’s never too late to begin competing in athletics. Following a 45-year career as a cardio-pulmonary specialist, Stone began rowing in 1992 at the Open Water Rowing Center in Sausalito, California.
Just five years later, she went on to capture the first of back-to-back gold medals in the Head of the Charlies River Race in Boston in the Women’s Senior Veteran Singles category.
In addition to her gold medals at the Head of the Charles, Stone has also won silver medals at the U.S Masters Championship and the Nike World Championship.
