A top tennis player for four years, Carl Soane '85 played at #1 doubles for four years and #1 singles for three. He had an impressive senior season when he recorded and undefeated, dual-match record of 10-0 in singles and closed out his career with an overall 40-9 singles record.
 
Soane was the 1985 NESCAC runner-up in singles and doubles and received the NESCAC Clarence Chaffee Award, given by the conference’s coaches to the individual who best exemplifies sportsmanship and dedication to tennis. Also in his senior year, Soane garnered a national singles ranking of 33rd and selection to play in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
 
Soane was one of four national finalists for the 1985 Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award. Following graduation, he played professional tennis on the satellite tour in the United States, Australia, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Yugoslavia. He earned an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking of 690 in the world in doubles in 1987.
