Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame
Meghan Barry '97 proved to be one of the most dedicated, talented and technically sound rowers to have competed for the Connecticut College athletic program.Â
During her four years of competition on the Thames River, the Camels posted a dominant record of 46-9 in the varsity eight. In her sophomore year, Barry helped lead the Camels to a bronze medal at the Head of the Charles Regatta. The team also earned a pair of silver medals at the New England Rowing Championships, competed in events throughout Europe in the summer of 1995, and won the petit final at the first ever NCAA Rowing Championships in 1997. In her senior year, Barry sat in the stroke seat and was honored as the team’s most valuable rower.
At the conclusion of her senior year, Barry received the Anita DeFrantz ‘74 Award. It is given annually to the male and female members of the graduating class whose athletic ability, leadership and sportsmanship best exemplify the qualities of Olympic medalist Anita L. DeFrantz ‘74.
Barry earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in religious studies and anthropology (a double major). She also served in a leadership capacity as an environmental coordinator in her dorm.Â
Since graduating, Barry has continued to stay active within her sport as a participant, coach, and volunteer. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the George Pocock Rowing Foundation (GPRF), an organization that supports high quality programs and facilities to promote access to rowing, excellence in rowing, and use of rowing as a means to foster health, leadership and community engagement. The GPRF runs a program jointly with the Seattle Public Schools providing free access to rowing for urban youth.
Barry competes in national and international regattas with the women’s team at the Pocock Rowing Center. In 2012, her boat came in third in the Women’s Masters Eight at the Head of the Charles Regatta. Over the years, her team has also enjoyed top placement at the San Diego Crew Classic, the Northwest Regional Championships, US Rowing Masters Nationals, and the FISA World Masters Games.
Barry currently serves as the President of LuxuryRealEstate.com, the #1 website dedicated to high end residential property. She lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband Peter.
