A groundbreaker for women in sports and one of the most decorated and successful Division III coaches of all time, Anne Parmenter has been a mentor and leader in the NESCAC for close to three decades.

Parmenter was the head field hockey coach at Connecticut College for 14 seasons with her team making six ECAC Division III New England Championship appearances. From 1994-1996, the program reached its pinnacle as Parmenter’s teams won 30 field hockey games.

Parmenter recruited many talented field hockey players and gifted students, including 1995 All-American Kim Holliday ‘96 (AHOF Class of 2009), who closed out her career as the program’s all-time leading scorer.

On the lacrosse field, Parmenter’s teams posted a 107-47 (.695) record from 1991-2001. The Camels made nine appearances in the ECAC Championship, capturing ECAC crowns in 1994 and 2000. In 1996, Parmenter’s squad made history as the first Camel women’s lacrosse team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Parmenter played an instrumental role in the expansion of the physical education curriculum at the College. In addition to her role as a coach, se also held leadership posts as Assistant Athletic Director and as the Senior Woman Administrator for the College.

She taught numerous activity classes including aqua-aerobics, kayaking, orienteering, and rollerblading. She also helped formulate the outdoor education program, which provided the framework that led to the installation of the indoor climbing wall in Luce Field House.

After leaving Connecticut College, Parmenter continued her successful coaching career at Trinity College. As the head field hockey coach, Parmenter’s teams qualified for the NCAA Championship twice, advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round in 2008 and 2009. In the fall of 2014, Parmenter was honored as the NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year as well as the NESCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Bantams to a 13-4 record.

Parmenter also contributed to the Trinity women’s lacrosse program as an assistant coach for 14 years. In 2006, Parmenter took a one-year sabbatical to achieve a lifelong dream of climbing Mount Everest.
