As a senior team captain, Barron earned All-America honors in the hammer throw for his second place performance at the 1994 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Also that year, he was an outdoor national qualifier in the weight throw (61’ 5.75”) and the shot put (43’ 3”), while he established outdoor school records in the hammer (177’ 0”), the discus (122’ 11”), and the shot put (47’ 6.5”).

Barron continued his throwing career after graduation, competing in numerous national and international championships all over the world. Events have taken him to Brazil, Canada, Ireland, and Scotland, where he participated in the celebrated Scottish Highland Games competition and was the 2002 World Caber Champion. Barron also took third place honors in the caber event at the 2001 World Championships in California.
